Last year’s hot weeds
Did not respond well
To being pulled up
They resisted my meager strength
They were wed to the hard earth
I could have let them be
I admired their
sturdy resilience
their determination
to exist
I pulled and pulled
But their roots would not let go
It has come to pass
I have taken to singing
snatches of songs
I once knew
They have taken over
my vocal cords
pitched them
to their comfort
They say as you age
and start forgetting things
you start to remember
all the old songs
you loved
when you were young
It’s true!

Mother Earth
since our birth
has tried to keep us true.
But now she cries,

Please let me heal

I was always the cheerful one
In my family
Especially
Whenever anything stressful occurred
I’d get very cheerful
It would usually happen once or twice a month
Maybe twice
But now
Stressful events are happening
Every day
Right here in the
USA
And other countries
All around the world
I have gotten so cheerful
I can hardly contain myself!
