Wednesday

 

Garbage day!

See, I told you it would come

Without warning

And too soon

Of course, all the work is done

On Tuesday evening

Loading the three bins

And dragging them to the curb

To be picked up at

6 am on Wednesday morning

After which some errant person

Or ghost

Or friendly neighbor

Who’s up at 6 am

Drags our empty cans

Across the rocks

From the curb to the side of the house

Near where I sleep

 

I wake up continuously

During this operation

But what can I do

Somebody wants to be helpful

And why should I interfere with their

Generous impulse

I decided to be grateful

It feels much better than

That other thing I was feeling

Tuesday Walk

 

the walk was better today

it was warmer and less painful

and there were some fun

decorations

in the front yards

and probably in back yards too

where they cannot be seen

many are doing what

we did last year

taking knick-knacks

and treasured objects

out of the house

into our open outdoor

spaces

to be creatively

displayed

for our pleasure

these treasures

want to be seen

not hidden in some drawer

or cupboard

or box

lost

under the bed

discarded in the garage

no

here they are alive

in these rocky yards

peeking out from

unexpected places

just to make me smile

Monday Walk

 

He did it

He really really did it

I don’t know how he did it

But he did

 

He is a brave fellow

We were on our daily walk

And the walking hurt

But he persevered

And finished the walk

As planned.
