GARAGE DAY!!

Again?!?

I feel fierce

I want to get everybody

Together

Under one roof

I am going to make it happen

Nothing can stop me

I want you to count me in

World

 

Cliff came!

He was okay again

So we made spaghetti

And unfroze the cake

And sang Happy Birthday

And he made a wish

And blew out the candles

And we ate ice cream and cake

On the pretty dishes

And made mimosas

A little Chardonnay

With orange juice

And Cliff opened his birthday card

From his grandmother

Which included a check

He was surprised

And happy

Cliff was officially

35 years old

 

We had a lovely

Evening

The three of us

And I must have

Washed the dishes

Because I usually do

And then I went to bed

And maybe they sat up

Talking

I don’t remember

‘Cause I wasn’t there

SHORT BYTE (1987)

 

I didn’t have the normal sensory experiences

As a child

So I developed

A whole series

Of compensating devices

 

Memorial Day

Megan came over

For Cliff’s birthday

He wasn’t there

So we did the Runes

It wasn’t our best day

Megan wasn’t feeling that well

I was afraid

Mark would think Megan and I were

A little loud

‘Cause we were talking

And getting animated

I thought

he said something

From his room

So that made the air

inadvertently

Murky

I got that scary feeling

In my chest

That I get

When things could get

Out of hand

You never know

After Megan left

Mark assured me we were okay

There was no problem

I was glad to hear it

But I was sorry

Our Runes were

A little

Nervewracked

Which made me

unnaturally cheerful

for a while

 

Also, Cliff was going to come later

So we could celebrate his birthday

He was at Scandia with his girlfriend

In Rohnert Park

And having a great time

But then he texted

His stomach was upset

So he wouldn’t be coming

After all

Mark said that’s okay

We’ll just save everything

Until you get here

Low-grade insanity

Living each other’s

Emotional life

Can drive you crazy

 

 

Okay

Here’s the day I have been

Waiting for

Mark conducted the choir

Both services

9:00 and 10:30

He conducted his own piece

And all the other choir music

As well

And they loved him

Yes!

He got so many compliments

For his conducting

Of the anthem

And his own music

 

Am I in heaven now

This has got to be the start of something

BIG

“I AM SO HAPPY

YES I AM!”

One of the fun songs

Where we put down the music score

And start clapping

And singing

And swaying

And rejoicing

DESPITE ALL THAT IS GOING ON

IN THE WORLD

EXPECIALLY AMERICA

Or maybe because of

 

I almost forgot

Sunday was Cliff’s birthday

But he was delayed

At his mother’s

So we saved the spaghetti

 

And the ice cream and cake

Etc.
