we are not a humanitarian nation

we have self-interest

(up the wazoo)

flowing

in our veins

keeping us alive

ascendant

descendant

f*r*e*e*

for

all

or

none

a delusion

of

distorted vision

malfunction

of

perception

(the difference between

right and wrong)

a simple idea

but so hard

to adhere to

 

like faith in the future

belief in the goodness

of people

belief in bravery

would you put your life on the line

i have often wondered whether

in this lifetime

i would have to throw myself

to the lions

do i have

that kind of courage

will i have a choice
