Wow!
What a day was Sunday
First, got up very early (for us)
Second, drove to Davis
Arrived DCC
Put on robes
Gathered in the choir area
Warmed up and rehearsed Anthem
Note: Emma gave me a
Singer’s Mask
And it definitely helped
More air to breathe inside the mask
Glasses didn’t fog up
!
We drove home and I
Took a nap
Got up in time to leave later than planned
For Berkeley
To see Eliza O’Malley
And other folks who might be
At the Hillside Club
In Berkeley
We did get to see some
Of the opera concert
Which we were very happy about
It was a fundraiser
For Eliza’s opera company
Berkeley Chamber Opera
Eliza was an early participant with
Goat Hall Productions
(aka San Francisco Cabaret Opera)
I met her at Holy Names Opera Scenes Workshop
In Montclair, Oakland
Sylvia Amorino (Solo Opera) wanted to stage
“Riders to the Sea”
And she cast me as Maurya the mother
And Suzanna Mizell as one of my daughters
And Eliza O’Malley as the other daughter
It was performed at Holy Names and also at
Goat Hall, our venue on Potrero Hill
San Francisco
2003
During the performance of
The companion opera
A woman fainted
The fire department came
And basically shut us down
Because we had too many people
(lucky us: full house!)
And we needed more emergency exits
Or something
We had been performing at Goat Hall
For six years
Eliza was a big part of our success
So we arrived Berkeley 3:10 pm
And left 3:50 pm
Arrived Davis 5 pm
And 5:06 pm at Pastor Chris’s place
For a meeting of those of us
Who are interested in knowing more about DCC and our potential participation in the church
We were given a packet of information which looks fairly inspirational
I am reading it carefully
We arrived home a little late
No family zoom for us
