We stayed home today

There were signs of rain

At our front door

But nowhere else

I watered the front yard plants

Just in case

They were thirsty

Some plants I thought had died

Are blooming!

I don’t feel like cooking

I’d like to eat out

But that costs money

What shall I eat?

I made a salad out of

A bunch of stuff I had

In the refrigerator

It was barely edible

Ennui!

Mark heated

Chicken nuggets and curly fries

In the oven

Served with white wine

From Grocery Outlet

Voila!

I decided to write myself an

Itinerary of functions

With times attached

As a consequence

I actually

Vocalized and practiced

Some songs for church

And a couple for me

Mahler’s

Kinder-Totenlieder

(Songs on the Death of Children)

The trouble with good songs

In whatever language

Though I prefer German

The notes may be in my range

Most of the time

Nice and low

But every now and then

The notes go way up

Out of my range

I have this conviction that

If I vocalize and practice enough

I will be able to hit those notes

Without screeching

Though screeching might be appropriate

When singing about dead children

Breaking News!

The war is worse

Death toll rising
