I had to get up early on two counts:
First, GARBAGE DAY
I had to keep an eye on things
I ordered a BIG green bin
To replace our LITTLE green bin
Because we need more room to put
Tree scraps and scrapings
Cuttings and choppings
ORGANICS
That’s the word
I had to put a sign on the little green bin
That said: “Do not remove
This bin is being replaced by a large bin”
So I got up and went out at 6:30 a.m.
The green organics bin and the blue recycle bin
Had already been emptied
So I put the sign on the former
With a big rock on top
To hold the sign in place
And the latter
I dragged back to its resting spot
Not quite out of sight
Along the side of the garage
In the meantime
The big grey trash bin had also been emptied
So I brought it back at 7:30 a.m.
And when I came out again
At 9:30 a.m.
There was my new big green ORGANICS bin
Waiting for me
I would have been happy to have gone
Back to bed
But the second count was WRITERS GROUP
First Wednesday of the month
So I zoomed in
And did what I was committed
To do
WROTE
By hand
For forty minutes
Everyone who read what they wrote
didn’t seem to have noticed
There was a war going on
We were given a couple of prompts
That dealt with happiness
And water
And everyone’s writings were full of the
Beauties of nature and other
Meditative
Poetics
But all I could think about was
The war
And the people of Ukraine
Evacuating
With their beautiful babies
And the best I could come up with
Honoring the prompts
Was that
The young soldiers of the Ukraine were
Happy
To have water
To drink
