Quote from January 27: “What I really need is a piano!”
Actually, I have a piano; I am just too lazy to use it.
(Note: We have two pianos: one is Mark’s
and one is mine, in different rooms!)
I plan to turn over a new leaf
And practice every day:
Not just singing
Actually playing the piano
Because I love the piano
And I can see myself in my old age
(In my very old age)
Sitting at the piano
playing Chopin
And Mozart
And Mahler
Schubert and Schumann
And singing all the German lieder
That I learned in my 30s and 40s
Plus some contemporary English and American composers
Such as Benjamin Britten and Ned Rorem.
(I recently wondered why I knew such a repertoire of classical songs.
But then I remembered that I attended the San Francisco
Music & Arts Institute in San Francisco for six years (1970 to 1976) and most of the time I could only afford to take voice lessons and attend the weekly performance class, where everyone had to perform with new material every week! What a joy! Can I recapture that feeling? Can I still sing? Will my fingers still work on the piano keyboard?!)
Stay tuned!
