Behind in my blog
Today, as I write, it is actually Monday, April 11.
I had to ask Mark what happened on Friday
Friday was wiped out of my memory
Because of Sunday, April 10
which was huge
But I’ll write
about that later
on the real April 11
Mark tells me
We walked
After parking opposite Cogir
A senior facility
Where I used to go to
Alanon meetings
Stopped by the Pandemic
March 2020
It had another name then
It had many name changes
The best moment on Friday
Was seeing the mourning dove
Mark has been looking for
Since hearing its Song
In our yard
The small bird was sitting alone
On a high wire
Above the residences
Where we were walking
He was singing with
All his might
I tried to mimic his song
I won’t say he sang back
But at least he didn’t fly away
I hope he got some recompense
For his mournful efforts
The next best moment
Closer at hand
Was a family of turkeys
Pecking in the yard of a house
That once bordered a golf course
Which went out of business
Apparently
One day all traces of it
disappeared
So that now there is only unmowed
Green space
Around the yard where the turkeys
Have taken up residence
With one male turkey
Spreading his tail feathers
Into a perfect magnificence
Of invitation
Or maybe he was only
Practicing
No female was paying attention
Anyway
I couldn’t help wondering
How the occupants of all those houses …..
Around the office area of
Leisure Town Center
Extending all the way along
Leisure Town Road
In both directions
And also all the way across
A large now barren field
Toward Orange Drive
…. felt about this dramatic
Downward plunge
Of their manicured
World
I wondered How much money
They paid
For the privilege of having a
Golf course at the edge of their lawn
With no fences
Now they are exposed
To potential invasion
They look like they need
Protection
I am worried about them
Is there someone in charge?
